I am looking to purchase a shop tablesaw (3-5HP) in the near future. I have read about JET, Delta, and Powermatic. My gut is to go with the Powermatic but don’t know if it is worth the $ or would the JET be just as good?

John, Check out the archives ........ a few threads on this subject. Might want to check out the General, too.
*John Powermatic was bought by Jet so either way you may be buying the same machine. I dont know about general but Id go with the Jet.
*John Even though Jet bought Powermatic the two saws are in no way similar. Get inside and check out the trunnion on any saw beside the Powermatic. The Jet fence system is not near as good as the Biesmeyer you can get on the PM. Fit and finish on the PM is far superior as well. I have worked on the Jet, Unisaw and PM Model 66 for years and would not have anything but the 66. I have looked over the General and it looks very substantial like the 66, but have not had the opportunity to use one. Many good comments from others tho. My concern would be part and service availability since they are not widely used or available here(N.E. Ohio). Good luck with your chioce

*Hey John, get the best you can afford. That said, we've had the 3hp unisaw in the shop for the past 5 years. Good saw, and the fence is great.
*Check out this product from over here - the ALTENDORF F45. I guarantee - this is the world´s best table saw, have it ourselves. I wonder what it costs in the United States though. The web-site has an english text.Greetings, Mathias http://www.altendorf.de
