What do you guys use to build a short bottom door for a air handler closet. This application has the return air low to the floor, then a access above it that requires the bottom to be about 12″ below the handle. What do I use????

If you are still in the framing stage for the air handler closet just frame it to accept a full sized door, minimum 2'0"-6'8'. You'll be ahead of the game if you have full access to the entire unit should you ever have to replace it or do major maintenance. You also might want to check the code requirements in your area for access to air handlers.
*No, It's already framed, and the return air is in already, below the door opening. You can't cut down a hollow core door as you will loose the bottom strip. Do you just add a filler strip after you cut it?
*Yes, you can cut down a hollow core door. Use a straight edge as a guide and score the face of the door with a utility knife to prevent splintering. You can salvage the strip you will need from the cutoff by stripping the veneer with the utility knife and dressing it with a belt sander. Glue and clamp it - done.
*Ralph, try this method next time you cut any veneered or laminate door.Clamp your straight edge as usual, then set the blade for approximately3/8" deep.Pull the saw backwards, this scores the veneer.Set the saw for depth for full cut and saw as usual. No need to mask with tape or score with a knife.I have cut at least 1000 doors like this.
*Thanks. I guess an old dog CAN learn some new tricks. Now we'll see if my CRS syndrome will allow me to.
