I'm not sure I'd go in that. What's with all of those scabs?
"When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking." — Sherlock Holmes, 1896
Those are architecture.
That is one insane idea! what about when the tree dies? wonder if he allowed for that? or will the structure be in danger of falling? I may have to stop and see that place next trip south.
I'd love to see it, maybe even go in but I don't think I'd want to spend the night.
I wonder if he had a permit.
I sent the link to my very un-builder son and that was his first question too. From the looks of it I'll bet not but I'll bet one isn't required. I checked the Crossville website and a permit is needed in the city limits but apparently not in the county.
And if he had a permit, do you suppose it actually got inspected? And, since the guy's an archy, what do you suppose his architectural drawings of the place look like?
A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity. --Jimmy Carter
Pretty cool.
His place is featured in the treehouse guru Pete Nelsons new book "New Treehouses of the World" as well. (along with a whole lot of other cool stuff as well.....)
Any idea what species of tree he started with ?
12' diameter is one BIG tree trunk.

According to the treehouse book it is a white oak ....12'?? Do they really grow them that big??It has a basketball court inside as well!
What's more amazing is the house was certified LEED Platinum.
It's impressive, for sure. Even if the guy who built it seems to be a bit of a nutcake.... ;O)
But to answer your question, heh, heh, heh....
