Finehome Building? We built this home in 1991. It is hard for me to believe that it was 20 years ago. I never did much promotion / advertising in those days and only had a couple of pics. The Great Room pictured is 30′ x 64′ with vaulted ceiling to 32′. The Great Room has western red cedar lap and gap rough sawn walls, and ceiling and porch ceilings are western red cedar smooth sawn v groove. All beams and columns in the Great Room are finished with Texas red aromatioc cedar. We acclimated the cedar for about 3 weeks inside the home with HVAC on before install. The home has a total of 6400 SF of living area, not to inlcude a “home school” classroom over the Garage. Total home footprint and upper floors improvements being 11,450 SF. The mantle is a piece of Texas Pecan 30″ wide, 9″ thick and 9′ long. It took 8 of my in house crew to lift and set the mantle. It floated into the room. The owner told me he thought it looked as if it would fall toward the front. At his reaction, I asked three of my men to climb up on the mantle and jump. They did, and it did not move. The stone mason later added corbals, but it did not need the added support. Two masons and two helpers worked on the project from November 1991 through March of 1992, and provided a custom Texas sized bar-b-que / smoker pit and other site improvements on the 112 acre estate. We added 3″ pecan wood shutters. The shutter builder measured and checked for square, tellng me he had never measured multiple same size windows, where nothing varied more that 1/8″ and all were square until this home. There is a 2 car porte cochere in fornt of 2 car Garage. The Garage is drive through with custom mahogany overhead doors on the front and back. The original homeowner died and the property was recently listed as for sale. Asking price $3,000,000.00…a real bargin considering the improvents and 112 acres. I contacted the realtor, and in exchange for a “Features” document, she will meet me onsite for more pics, and provide a review of our work we can post on our newly revised website. (www.brotherscustomworks.com). The attached pics are from the realtors marketing. We also built a $45,000 children’s playhouse, a 70′ bridge with a gazebo in the center over a large pond / lake, a 40′ dock at the pond, floating swim platform, an observation tower with diving platform, a shop and storage building, etc. The owner paved 5′ walks around the lake and property, and added commercial grade park benches and picnic tables. The exterior is real Austin White Limstone, with 2″ rough sawn cedar trim, standing seam metal roof, and Pella windows and doors. The HVAC system was state of the art at the time, with temp sensors in each room allowing heat or air to be delivered to each room according to the computer settings (1991 and $3,500.000 per ton). The owner lived in a 1400 SF ranch house on my property during construction, and at the house warming party where he held out a huge steak for me, he told me his utility bills were lower than those he paid while in the 1400 SF farmhouse. The fireplace returns heated air into the home via the vents as shwon on the fireplace front. The house if well insulated, and the owner said he could heat the home in winter without HVAC support. At almost every turn or suggested upgrade or extra, the owner said “Lets do it.”, and asked me to provide the best material and most substantial methods of construction. One of the Great Room cabinets has bookcase over a base, The bookcases are hinged, and open to a large hidden gunrack. The gunrack was to be secret, but the owner was so pleaed he showed everyone who visited the site. All bedroom closets are red aromatic cedar lined. Aside from the cedar trimmed Great Room, all other doors and windows are trimmed with douglas fir old school trim, with 11 pieces of trim on each door. A third story office at the top of the vaulted ceiling was added with plan tables and block paneling for the owner’s commercial site prep business. Comments will be welcomed.

First off, it is hard to believe that in Texas something built in '91 would be 20 yrs old in 19 yrs. Everythings bigger in Texas.
Second, welcome back...how you been?
As you can see, some changes since your last foray.
Tried to post a comment, but the server is down or experiencing problems, and I think it was lost.
Thanks for your comment. All is well in South Texas.
That is one fine place.
In spite of the motorcycle in the greatroom. Guys wife must be pretty understanding.
Thanks for posting the pictures, feel free to show some more.
Thanks.
It actually was 20+ years ago, as I was involved in the planning, which started in 1989.
I really thought that the pics would bring more comments, but I believe I offended some in Breaktime....... as much my fault as any body's. Maybe I am being ignored.
At the same time I was bringing on a new construction manager, I was faced with a hotel to build for a previous custom home client, and trying to make progress on a land development, aside from our regular design / build business. I enjoyed BT TOO MUCH, and it was eating into my schedule....so I departed.
The construction manager is still with me, and taking care of more. I can drop into BT on occasion, and have at times without comment or post.
Well, as they say here in Ohio about those that may have been offended (for why we do not know)............
Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
Come back as often as you care to. The neighborhood has really changed and not for the better. Good to see you are still breathing. I assume you saw the memorial post on Rez's passing.
"A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch."
So true. It is the "Sucker Punch" that caused the problems on several occasions. I got up and fought back, which only made matters worse.
No, I did not see the memorial on Rez's pasing. I always enjoyed his post, the seemed to be intelligent and witty. I am sorry to hear.
I see that a cold front, with snow is sweeping the country. It was a balmy 70 degrees here yesterday, rain today and it is get down in the 30s and 40s this weekend.
I went on a crusie to Routan, Honduras, Coasta Maya and Cozumel over New Years. I had grown a goatee for a Daughters of the Conferderacy
period dress up event in October. My wife is a history and ancestory buff. I was dressed as a Southern Gentleman. I kept the goatee through the cruise, and for fun and the encouragement of wife and kids, had dreadlocks / beads woven into the goat on the island of Routan, Honduras. I thought you might get a kick out of my non-sense. See pic. My cheeks are fat from all the good food we ate on the crusie.
Also check out the taxin yellow taxi pic I took in Cozumel, and a view of Cozumel from standing at a public bath / urinal on the ship.
After the weave, I was propositioned to buy some weed 3 times on the island....thanks but no thanks.... those days are over.

Well, it's 5:30 pm and a balmy 18 degrees out.
Those pictures warmed it up a bit. Off to the bar in a while for pizza and music. I think we're doing the usual-walking.
Have a good weekend.
Don't know why you would have
Don't know why you would have offended anyone. And I wouldn't lose any sleep if you have.
Thanks Boss.
