Shower ceiling of troweled thin-set?

Is this possible? I want to trowel modified white thin-set over an existing tile ceiling in a small shower stall. Tile is sound. I’m thinking the thin-set might crack when spread out?
I want to end up with a white, waterproof ceiling that will take a scrubbing. Dura-bond and gloss paint? Plaster?

I'm thinking thinset won't stick very well to the glazed side of tile; and it doesn't make a very good finish material. That's not what it's designed to do.
If you want a white, waterproof ceiling that will take a scrubbing, why don't you just put up white tile? (I am assuming the tile that's up there now isn't white and you want to improve light reflectivity in the shower stall.)

Call a bathtub and appliance refinishing outfit like Miracle Method or similar. They refinish tile, too, no muss, no fuss. You won't be able to clean it with a Brillo pad, but it's a pretty durable surface. I've had it done on sinks and it held up well.

Has anybody tried glazes over or mixed into plaster? Or maybe water or oil base poly over plaster?
I'm going to skim a scrap of drywall with thin-set, see how it holds up with some bending. Maybe do another sample of thin-set mixed with gloss water-based poly. Definitely in the mood to try some weird science on this one.
I've tiled tile over tile but never on the ceiling. When I did he tile over tile, we painted the surface of the existing tile with a product that created a better adhesion. I can't remember what that was but it was some form of latex primer.
Dinosaur and I were just discussing Self leveling compounds which brings this thought into my lil ol head....you may wanna try buying some leveling compound...not self leveling though and do a few test tiles with it. I think that stuff adheres to "almost" anything REALLY really well...and then go over that with whatever you want.
Henry's/Customs makes a great leveling compound in a small box or in bags. Dries pretty fast too.

Sounds like drywall, maybe a skimcoat, but certainly a good quality paint job. Anything more is luxury.
