I installed an ADA shower. It replaced a bathtub, so it’s 30″ x 60″. I bought a unit from Mustee: base, wall panels, drip rail (for between the base and the ramp), and the ramp. Everything is in and all is great….except that the person in the wheelchair is furious.
His problem is that the 30″ isn’t deep enough. He gets the chair into the shower, but if he moves his arms he is bumping the curtain and then the curtain is outside of the drip edge and water is all over the floor.
So….I need to fabricate an “extension” to the shower. This means the floor really. Also, there is really no money to do this. I need to remove the ramp, put in maybe twelve inches of floor with a bit of slope towards the shower, then a couple of feet of level floor and then the ramp again (the toilet is complicating things). The cheapest thing I can think to do is put down the necessary plywood and lay linoleum, but…it’s cheap!
Are there any (cheap!) alternatives?
Thanks,
