Can anyone tell me what sealant I would use between a PVC 40 mill shower liner and the PVC drain??? I’m not sure if I should use the glue I have to weld the joints together. I have a can of the X-15 Oatey.
Thanks

Choosing the right heating and cooling system means finding the best fit for your home's size, layout, and climate—and balancing trade-offs in efficiency, comfort, and cost.

Use a flexible adhesive sealant caulk, like Geocel proflex or a polyurethane adhesive caulk like Vulkem 921....the glue you mentioned is for sealing seams in the PVC membrane.
I don't like the response worm gave you.
I seem to remember the plunmber using the same glue.
Try asking here.

There is also a board someplace for plumbing and heating questions.

The drains I use are usually cast bronze or ABS. That thin PVC glue, IMO wouldn't give me a seal at the flange that would enable me to sleep at night. Besides, it's important to get a good seal around the bolts that penetrate the flange.
I've been using the caulk I described for quite a few years with no problems, initially following the recommendation from the plumbing supply house.
I've not used a PVC flange....maybe that would work. I've seen a couple guys use plumbers putty rolled into a rope....I don't know about that method either.
I haven't seen this question come up here....I'll be interested to see what guys like Jeff Buck might have to say....and follow input on the John Bridge Forum.
Thanks For this site info

Doesn't the membrane have it's own sealant, or at least a recommendation? Try looking on the web for a manufacturer's site and see what they say, or call the dealer who sold you the material. That's a really important area to seal correctly.
Glue is not used at that location. Any type of caulk realy doesn't adhere to the liner and will only serve to clog the weep holes of the drain flange. At that location, a compression seal, created by the drain flange sandwich, is what creates the seal. Study the drain flange assembly and trust the design.
Your 2 main concerns are 1. Be sure the hole made in the liner for the flange is not oversized, and 2. Be sure the flange sandwich is tight.
Hope this helps.

I have not used PVC liner, but with chlorolloy that is absolutely a glue joint and it's done with the sealant provided by the membrane manufacturer. I have not seen a drain fitting designed to provide a compression seal to a membrane.
Of course it's important not to clog the weepholes. Bread is commonly used as a plug for those spots and it works.
This thread is interesting to me, because I've had some real testosterone arguments with veteran plumbers about the value of a preslope. "Goddammit, we've always put 'em in flat....buncha BS!"
So I just did the shower pans myself from then on....hot mops, chloroloy, PVC, but always a preslope....and now we're arguing over sealant at the drain.
And if you think Vulcum 921 won't adhere to PVC or Chloroloy, you've either never used it, or your membrane was dusty.
Now, I'm always open to new ideas, but there's also a reality about what works.
I stand corrected. FWIW: I copied this from the Tauton shower pan liner instruction."I like to adhere the underside of the membrane to the top of the drain-assembly plate with PVC membrane cement or an elastomeric sealant. After applying the cement to both the membrane's underside and the top of the baseplate, I quickly press them together, place the top ring in position and slowly tighten the bolts, applying equal pressure on each bolt."I recalled my error in applying glue to the topside of the liner at the drain. My error - then and now. Thank you for pointing it out.F
I re-read my post...I apologise if I sounded pissy...not my normal style...just didn't get any Easter eggs so I'm hopping mad! :-)
I'm still interested in how this thread develops. The drain is a critical area and learning a better method never hurts. Life is too short to let my ego get in the way!
No apologies necessary. In case you hadn't noticed from my posting style, I prefer the direct approach.F
So I am going to go for it and use the PVC glue that I have.
Thanks for all your help I am sure that there is going to be more on this subjuct
Thanks
