Shower stall substrand and waterproofing
Just watched Tom Meehans videos on tiling a shower stall. Wondering why he used the Schluter system to create the pan, but no the walls. Does he have some reason for continuing to use Durock product on the walls and not the Schluter Kerdi membrane? I have watched Schluter video there the Kerdi membrane is placed over plain sheetrock for a completely waterproof surface. Is there a problem with this?

Probably the expense. No doubt Kerdi makes a nice shower but it costs a bunch and takes a lot of time to do well. I stil use it for pans and I really like the drains but am using Red Guard on the walls in the interest of speed and money.
