Hello… the drywallers installed ‘greenboard’ sheetrock in both our showers and the tub surround. We’re to the tiling stage now and the tile man says he wants to tear the greenboard sheetrock out and use heavy tile ‘backerboard’ instead.
At one time another tile man was talking about the option of installing backerboard on top of the green board that is already there.
Which is the best thing to do here? Tear out the greenboard sheetrock, or put the backerboard on top of the greenboard?
Opinions, please.

You can use Kerdi right over the greenboard. Or go over to the John Bridge forms where all the tile guys hang out.

Thank you, Z ... is Kerdi a backerboard?
Is John Bridge a forum on breaktime? How do I get there?!
I'm not familiar with either of these.
Thanks

Thanks, everyone, for your input on the shower tiling prep. I appreciate it!

The best job'd be Kerdi IMO but 2nd up would be Hardi. Rip the drywall down and put up backer board. It's the right way.

Green board is a code specified must not use! It never was approved for use in a shower!
It will fall apart when it gets wet. Take it out at the installers expence, he should know better.
Do you have the correct pre-slope under the pan liner or is it a preformed pan?
