I’m going to install cedar side-wall shingles on the shop I’m building. Once again I’d like to ask for your advice. What’s the best fastener to use? The shingles will be primed all around & then painted on the exposed surface. They are going over 1/2 ply & Tyvek. Any other tricks on cutting and fitting them I should know about? Thanks.

If you are using a gun go with stainless steel. If you will be nailing by hand you would then use a double dipped galv. nail. "Good idea on the back prime".
*I would use stainless steel either way. Maze has sst ring shank shingle nails specifically for that application. I would also fur out the wall and install the shingles on the strips rather than come in direct contact with the Tyvek (I know they are primed on six sides but it still would make me nervous...do a search on cedar and Tyvek!). I'll post a pic of an installation I did about 5 years ago (if I can find it!)CM
*4d or 5d galvanized box nail if hand-nailing. Less money than stainless and will hold up the 50 years your shingles should. Box nails have narrow shanks so they don't split the wood. Stainless if using a nail gun.Mike
