Our home is 40 years old this year and in pretty good condition however I have some seams in the siding where water has infiltrated and rotted. This siding is no longer available so I’m at a loss as to how to repair this.
Would appreciate any ideas. I have thought about residing the dormers with new siding, and trying to harvest enough usable siding from them to patch this spot.
Thanks for the help

The picture didn’t show up for me.
What kind of siding is on the house?
The photos should appear now. The siding is some composite material, neither wood nor cement board.
Soe sort of composite siding that's not made any longer but no idea which one. I'd replace it all with HardiLap but please don't stack joints! Make sure you read the Hardi installation instructions if you go that route.
What I'm trying to avoid is replacing all the siding (to match). The picture is less than 1/4 of the siding on the house, most of it is still in good shape. I was wondering if I could cut out the joint and replace the section, but I would have to salvage siding from somewhere else on the house - and the dormers are my best option.
Those look like panels installed horizontally thus the 'stacked' joints. Did you look at LP Smart-Side? Looks like they have a similar profile with the 'groove'.
Looks like Homasote the 70s great idea for siding ask lumber yard to get some Ive been able to get it in the past but its not a good product and installs like clapboards
