I’ve been re-reading the Sept.2002 issue article on “Vinyl Siding the Right Way” in preparation for a difficult siding job….homeowner installed new, smaller windows in built down rough openings, nailed the flanges directly to T-111 siding/padded out rough openings, then nailed/glued strips of burn-down roofing around the edges…I’ve got pictures if any wants to see a really classic “re-muddling”…
Back to the article, I’m new to Buffalo N.Y. and haven’t found decent lumber yard/building supply houses yet….the local Home Depot doesn’t carry the wide vinyl channel mentioned in the article, just the usual small j-channel….can anyone tell me who makes the wide trim? …..thanks, BJ

Hi imerc, trying to e-mail you pics, not sure if it's my new dsl service or something else, but the attach files button isn't working....when I get it sorted out I'll send you some laughers...
Thanks for your photo, but what am I looking at at the window header?
BJ
That is a Redwood facade to hide the iron work that I did to beef up the original header. Used 1/4x2x6 (nominal) tube steel thru bolted on the outside to pick up the 3/4" or more of sag. All that was there was 2 ea 2x4's to span 4, 5 or 6'.... Also changed the 2x4's to 2x6's....

Welcome to Buffalo. I'm not sure if they have what you want, but for a good old-fashioned local lumber yard you can't do better than Niemiec Bros. on Grant Street opposite Buff State and next to the Scajaquada Expy.
