   A painter I know uses an IR bulb in a simple socket with a #10 tin can for the shield. He has a couple of them on adjustable gooseneck stands.

   Works well for him.

   Mongo,

              where would one get ann IR bulb? Any idea? I just wonderif it really does a good job. I could care less about noise..my hearing is shot anyway by now, its the lead paint I worry about and wonder if it does a better job then a heat gun.

   Keeping it under 1100° is what you need for lead, regardles of the heat source..

         Do any heat guns have a degree setting.....otherwise how would you know.

   The guy at the lead seminar said that it was the middle setting for most of them. If I remember right, my Makita came with a sheet of papeer that told the approximate heat for each setting. I'm sure that must vary with the size and length of the extension cord.

   My paint remover is anything but silent. She whines bitches and mouns every time I ask her to remove the paint.  Now she removes it with a crow bar, Dry wall and all.
