sill plate replacement – new one too thin/old one too thick
hey ya’ll,
i’m about to replace 10′ of termite eaten sill plate. Termites are gone.
going to ease the joists with a beam+jack and cut out and replace plate with Pressure Treated 2×8.
Sill plate is on top of concrete block in a basement.
I was testing how to get the sill plate in place & around wires and pipes etc, when I found that the old plate is actually 1.75″ thick! and of course my new 2×8 is 1.5″ thick.
how would you make up this 1/4″?
Cut PT “shims” out of 2x leftovers for under each joist/above the PT sill?
1/4 ply on top of the PT wood? seems like the ply would crush
some kinda painted metal plate wrapped in roofing felt under the PT? also seems like a bad idea as metal and PT don’t mix well.
i’m trying to address this asap to get moving forward on the reno project that uncovered this beauty.
thanks for the advice.
