so, if I had to use new pt for a sill plate, and termite shield, could I use 1/4 ” tile backer on the block? I know I will have to have a pestcontrol applicater SOON..for now I want / need to yank the band and sill..thinking like this..alum. flashing on top of block, 1/4 cementicious backer board, no sill seal (un heated crawl area) then 2×8 pt sill plate, rip the 2x band to 1/4 less (2×8) in this case…and being as this is the side w/out the joistends, parallel to the joist run insert the new band?
When and if I need to do the bearing side, same thing but let the joists sit on the now 1/4 ” higher sill and hope they squash a bit?.
Is a double band now standard? It makes sense to me , but thats me.

My experience with concrete & aluminum & ground level exposure is aluminum turns to white slimey stuff and disappears after a few years.
Can't guess what the new PT does in contact with aluminum, I guess that's why you're putting the backer board in there?
Copper might be the best choice, I don't think aluminum flashing will last long.

Years ago, on raised foundations, the only place termite shield was used was at the poured stoop or steps to the entry doors. This was before my time, but I have seen a lot of them. It was also b/f pt lumber was used for masonary contact.
The reason I mention the placement is that most of them were of flashing lead or a heavey galvanized steel. They were placed beneath the mud sill at the step or stoop /porch junction, and the concrete poured over them. In the case of a poured porch with foundation wall the fill was generally soil, soil there was an avenue for termites to secretly get to the untreated mud sills.
I am wondering if rolled lead flashing would work with these new PT lumber?

I used a newish termite shield...Way easier to use and its copper but a seriously thin layer of copper glued to a sort of water proof fabric/paper.
The sill sealer I used was a roll of foam rather than the standard fiberglass sealer...Makes sense as far as moisture goes.
One other thing I figured out doing my own crib was to go into the crawl space and look where I saw light coming through and squirted in Touch N Foam. MAkes for a nice tight seal.

There is a new product out there that is a flashing and sill seal in one, can't remember the name. In my neck of the woods ( central Oregon coast ) anything that is on the shell of the house is stainless steel no questions.Orca Builders
