we built a big garage/ bedroom addition for our customer about 5 years ago… the old roof still had some life.. so we left it.. now we’re back for a strip and reroof..
tough site but we’re trying to use gravity to our advantage..
loading up the staging for the mobilization..
here’s the first thing on the site.. job sign..
and a view of the house..

couple things.. the house was JUST painted... so we have to protect the siding
the original builder used no drip edge..

also... the old gutter was badly fastened with nail & ferrule, we installed new fascia hangers alongside with SS screws
here's a sample of a "kick flash " we used on the new addition to get the water out from behind the clapboards
and a view showing how much we hold our siding off the roof.. we use colored coil stock to compliment the siding /roofing

we stripped the edge back ... then hung our tarps from the eave to protect the siding..
trying out our new toy.. a bostich cap stapler.. great tool !

the roof is stripped and papered in.. Ice & water on the eaves, RoofTopGuardII underlayment, bostich cap staples holding everything in place ( we used to use roofing discs )
folding up the lead flashing at the chimney ..... carefully.. some idiot glued it down with lexonite..
and rolling the old roofing downhill.. out the plank and into the dumpster..

Good pictures.
Thats a long way and a slow way to the dumpster. .
I guess the people gotta have their life style with keeping the dumster at the street or the dumster couldnt go to the house .
I have a trailer made to accept shingles from the house and a shute for it.
No totum shingles.
On second thought [went back and looked again] that is a long way from the ground and theres plenty of ground cover to worry about. What the heck, charge them for it !

Mike, info on the cap stapler please? Cost, cost of caps..weight wise worth it etc?
I'll be wrapping the house in felt REAL soon ( finally am there) and looks like my back roof will be needing a tear off...Cu's Latin guys still nail all the caps on ( I don't know why) so we don't have one that I can borrow.
I think I might just buy one..wanna hear your take on it. Please. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
check the prices online... you'll like the gunMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Josh had a Hitachi cap nailer. It left the nail heads too proud of the caps to use under copper and the nails are expensive. I think the nail expense gets washed if we don't get anymore roof planes where we have to back and hand bang the caps after we've shot them. I'll check with Mike later and see if he still likes the Bostich and reconsider. Chileo hasn't been too interested in one.Birth, school, work, death.....................
The Bostich is a staple on. I can see where Chileo wouldn't bother, he is SO damn fast at hand nailing them. I swear he hits em in with one whap and somehow gets his fingers away in time. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
Mike, why did they hang onto that aged skylight when cherrying out the roof? Interior finish or "other". Doesn't stand far off that roof.
thanks.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

You should do that more often. You look 20 years younger.
OK, so they trust Mike at the helm while the boats moored...what does that tell us?

Ok not to rock the boat but that dumpster plank, that ain't OSHA approved. Actually I don't know if it is or isn't but I'm sure some safety guy somewhere would have something to say.
So five years ago would that reroof have been what 30-40 % cheaper?
the plank ? no side guards. but other than that... good to go
as far as 30-40% less money 5 years ago... probably.. no , not probably... for sure !
but c'est la vie.. wudda , cudda, shoulda..
we just finished another roof about a month ago.. it was the second half of a job we did 7 years ago..
people do what their budget allows

It takes folks 7 years to save up enough $$ for you to do one HALF of the roof?! Wow, I do NOT want to know what you charge!
