Since HW Heating is the Subject du Jour
I came home from our one and only salvage yard yesterday and breathlessly told my husband that I could score some real, honest-to-gawd cast iron radiators. I want them for looks only….cost is not the issue.
He gave me that pained, what planet did she come from look that I so often see. Then he made is frequent comment of “often the memory is better than the reality”.
Is it worth rehabbing these things? Am I going to wind up with an air-infested, bleed all the time system….or could these things be really cool? Would like some advice from the Easterners who actually use them.

My first house had them. You avoid the drafts that make forced air uncomfortable to me, but you get hot spots and cold spots that I find equally uncomfortable. They also make placement of furniture and art objects on the wall awkward at times. I never found it hard to keep them running. Just didn't like having heat focused is spots. Prefer it evenly distributed.
