I stopped by my investment property today and was a little surprised to find my new sidewalk to the porch sinking. The big problem is that i fastened the wood steps (w/ redheads) to the walk and its pulling on my stringers. I since loosened the redheads and shimmed the steps. I called the cement guy who just happened to be in the neighborhood and came right over.he said he would replace it this week.
Heres the problem, the area where the walk is was excavated for basement waterproofing. I was not on site when the backfill was done and I wasnt on site when the walk area was tamped (the cement guy says he did it). I also have not had a chance to put the gutters up yet (this week) and we did have a good rain.
Even though hes offered to take care of this, I feel as though we should split the bill, too many quetions in my mind about responsibility.
What do you guys think? Should I just let hm do this or should we split the costs? This guy stands behind his work and i’d like to use him again. I dont want to seem like i’m just a complainer but he was aware of the excavation and it was his suggestion to leave the sidewalk one foot off the house instead of rodding it to the house.

Seems like you're not totally convinced it's his responsibility. Offer to split the cost, and you'll get much better response in the future . Or pay for the material and let him cover the labor.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be fair to pay at least for the concrete. Like I said before hes a real stand up guy and he takes care of his mistakes.
