Sistering 2×6 joists 16” OC with Truss 2’ OC
My wife and I are going the blow the roof off our rambler here in Minnesota and add a second level. We are trying to keep the existing ceiling that is currently being held up by 2×6 joists 16” OC. We would like to add 14” open web floor trusses 2’ OC to add air ducts through the second stories floor. So questions is (if I made this make any sense) how would I go about doing this? I get that 16” and 24” only line up every 3rd truss. Question is how to keep the 2×6’s that are unable to be sistered supported.

Most likely you're going to have to have a permit to do this and that will require an engineer. That being the case you may as well hire one now and get them started on drawings.
Your problem is pretty common. Set your trusses and when you get to the 3rd one set the truss as close to the ceiling joists as you can then scab a 2 X 4" on the side of the truss over the joist.
It might cost a little more but why not design for trusses 16" oc?
