Sistering Floor Joist Question
Hi, I have two, maybe three, floor joists where the ends are rotted from water damage. The pipes are fixed, no more issues. But, the subfloor also rotted. I need to fix it all.
When I cut off, say, 3′ from the end, how do attach the new piece? I know I would sister new boards if I was using only the original joists, but what about the new piece in the middle to replace the rotted part. How do I attach that to the original, good part of the floor joist? Most sistering I’ve seen keeps the old piece in the middle. Should I just do that an sister longer 2x10s along the original beam with floor jacks? This is below a kitchen, so it will have to hold up cabinets (or help to), dishwasher, maybe a fridge.
These are 2×10, actually they are 9 1/4 because the house is from the 70’s.

I’m not sure I’m entirely getting the question, but are you planning to sister those full span? If so you could just remove the old ones and replace the entire joist.

Are these joists under a load-bearing wall? Do they run parallel to or perpendicular to the load-bearing walls? Are they all next to one another?
perpendicular to the exterior wall. Those are terminating on the exterior wall. Yes. Next to each other. This is not to replace the entire board, just about 3'.
Check your town's code office. In my area any "sister" of floor joists has to be full depth and bearing point to bearing point. Basic engineering also. Option would be to install post with proper footing [creating a new bearing point].
