hey there?!
Anyone have opinions about siteboxes? Any brand preferred over any other? Steel preferred over aluminum? How about wood… does anyone out there use a wooden site box, and if so, what was your design, your parameters? Opinions wanted…
Thanks, Gerard

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

If its for theft I would have to say the KNACK is the best. They have some very big models that can be very well organized with lots of shelves also.
*Don't forget wheels, and chain it up to something. The shovels, picks, and jumping jack usually get locked up in the porta-john.
*Gerard,I'm with Chris on the Knaack. I just put a Model 89 on the site (a big box) and the amount of crew time it saves me easily pays for the box.I always chain the box down, but clearly that won't stop a determined thief. Mostly I think I do that for the insurance company's benefit and to make myself feel better about leaving all those tools on site.Basically, it's a calculated risk. Do you save enough time and get enough convenience to justify the loss if it happens? In some parts of town, yes, others, no.Of course, with the police chief you guys have, maybe that's not a concern. Dave
*What to you chain it to at the worksite that is secure enough? Just curious.Martin
*Martin,I'll chain a box to just about anything; a big tree, the house, in this case the owner's camp trailer.Doesn't matter. That's not how tools get stolen out of these boxes anyway. The box is far too heavy for 4 men to lift when full.Like I said, it's just to make me and the insurance company feel like I've taken every reasonable precaution, which I in fact have.Security is a relative phenomenon, anyway, be it tools or anything else in life. The tools don't need to be impossible to steal, just harder to get at than someone else's.Sometime's it's tradespeople doing the stealing, but I think that's relatively rare. At least I hope so. Mostly I think it's just someone needing a rock. Those guys aren't real bright but they are incredibly resourceful and well motivated. If I think they're in the neighborhood, I just don't leave tools around at all.Are you thinking about job boxes for Habitat?Dave
*I have Knack and JOBOX. Jobox are better, heavier, and cheaper.Don't use wood!blue
