I have a 1968 cookie cutter colonial. The beam in the basement is supported by 4″ dia steel columns at 8′ intervals. Can anyone speculate what dimesions the footings under the columns might be? I want to cut an opening in the floor near one of the columns, and I want to increase my chances of NOT hitting the footing for the column.
