Need to push out a wall of a breezeway between a garage and house and then enclose. Breezeway is 10 by 12 and will push it out 4 feet on both sides of the 10 foot side. So will end up with a room that is 18 by 12. Is a 16″x16″ sufficient grade beam on the permiter and then 6″ of concrete for the rest up to the exisitng 10 foot side. Will put plenty of 1/2″ rebar and ties into sides of garage, house, and existing slab with 12″ rebar stakes that have been epoxied into the side of each slab — Live in DC area. Thanks for all of your kind thouhgts.

Width of footing depends on soils and structure it supports.

Is there a local permiting authority? if so, they have the answer to this for your conditions.
