So has anyone here checked out Sketchup yet. I just noticed that a fellow named John Stanek made a post regarding it over in Joe Stoddards JLC Computer Solutions forum and I followed the link. Checked out the Online Video Tutorial and was impressed. Now I ‘ve downloaded the demo as was wondering if anyone else has used it yet or is interested in giving it test drive like I am.
A big plus for it in my book already is that there is a version for Mac OSX although there is nothing for OS 9 or earlier though (…yeah there are Windows versions too)
Cloud if you’re out there reading this what do you think? Have you checked this out yet?

Originally confused the name with another product. I looked at SU, but haven't done any more with it. I fill enough spare time helping Nemetschek understand the ellipsoid-ical requirements of what I do, and haven't had time to experiment much with other products. Sorry.

I haven't seen it or used it but over at Splash there are some guys who work in both the Acad world and Softplan who think it is pretty good stuff. As I remember their comments, it takes the powerful Acad platform and helps it work almost as easy as SP, with more options by the time you work in all the blocks available for Acad. But by then you are way deep into money for both programs.
Sounds real good for preliminary concept work though.
Excellence is its own reward!
Been playing with it now for a while now this evening and I'm having a good
time with it. Kool stuff.
Piffen---"Sounds real good for preliminary concept
work though." Well that's exactly
what I was thinking of applying it toward with the only glitch being that $450
price tag. I like to draw (as in real drawing with a pencil) and am pretty
good at
it
to
so it's not something I need but is something I think I may want.
Splash is a SoftPlan users forum correct?

Right!.

Checked out the 2 min. download; looks like fun. $450 sounds steep though. There's a similar product, not as many bells and whistles, but with a similar modeling engine, I believe. Called Design Workshop. You might take a look at http://www.artifice.com/index.html. You're talking about something like $100 for the "Classic" package and $499 for the "Professional". If it's quick 3D modeling you're looking for, the $100 package is pretty handy. Textures, shading, walk-thru, fly around, etc. Have a look.
Ya know I just discovered the Artifice site by accident early today although
I haven't looked at the product yet at all. I discovered it because some guy
with an artifice.com e-mail address set up a petition on Petitiononline.com to
petition Apple to add "tabbed browsing" to the new Safari browser
and I followed a link from there to Artifice,
Inc. to see what they were about..
Talk about irony and six degrees of separation. Weird.
Thanks for the heads up. Now I will have to go back and check that out too.

Design Workshop is one I did mess with, and then saw fit to keep looking till I found VW. 'Course I evaluate things mostly on their ability to handle compound curves, which admittedly is a special case.
