Skim coat with planex and quick-set lite. Ok?
Hey Gang,
I know there’s a bunch of ways to do this and many opinions but I’m too busy/lazy to research and decide this time, so just tell me:
I blew my stimulus check on the new festool planex. For a final skim coat on new drywall I was planning on going with a thin mix of quickset lite, with an 11 or 18 inch finishing trowel followed by sanding with the festool. Will this do the trick, or do I need to get some of that diamond mix I keep hearing about?
it’s a very large vaulted 3rd floor space, with windows at both ends so it needs to be tight! I used the floating butt jointed as well, thanks to your advice. i have already done the taping and second coat of mud as well as light pre-sanding and touch up.
Thanks to all who have helped me along many times so far on this. It’s been almost three years but I press onward.
Matt

Why do you want to do a skim coat? If it is smooth now, I would just prime and paint.
Skim coat is fine if a level 5 is required but there will be lots of sanding and if you have a new planex it may take you some time to get a perfect sanding job. Lots of edge sanding too. Just use a good finish mud with a little water added. A large knife should do a good job if you are skilled in skim coating.
