The client would like me to install a skylight in the bathroom. The original plan was to place a Panasonic Whisper fan/light unit in the center of the celing. But once the ceiling was exposed the client had the idea about a skylight.
I could move the fan/light to the side as shown in the picture and then place a sjylight as shown.
I am considered about the condensation in the room.
Any thoughts? Bad idea?
Thanks,
Dennis

I'll give you first hand info on a daughter/guest bath in NW Oh.
I installed a Velux, non-opening but "vented" (at the time ('88) it was offered as a vented skylight with a small flap up on the top. You pulled the flap down and released it with a cord. Probably was pulled down a couple springs, flapped back up a couple winters and then no use for 20 more yrs. Total sq. inches of "venting" just a couple-narrow screened/fabric'd slot.
No issue with condensation and it sits in a 5x9 bathroom (tub/shower with lid and dropped soffit to the lid. There is no other vent in the space-intention was to put in an HVR but like many things here in the dream home.....................
that's as a homowner.
As a remodeler, I would still install, under the caveat that yes, there could be condensation but with regular use of the exhaust fan (ON A TIMER), I would be less prone to see this happen.
Further, it looks like you have the fan situated above the tub-if you were to drop a bulkhead down on the outter opening of the tub, this might help contain the steam from showers in the tub area. Which may or may not be a good idea, depending on the use and habits of the users.
Further, convince them that warm dark and damp is what helps mold and mildew to grow so leaving a shower curtain or door open when not in use, along with running the fan a full 1/4 to 1/2 hour after a bath/shower, is a wise move.
We have radiant in the floor heat here so there's absolutely no air movement in the bathroom, except what moves naturally in/out with the door open.
EDIT: If they want more natural light-how about a SunTunnel (from Velux I think).?
