Have 8″ concrete walls going down to frost footings.
8′ wide and 6′ out from the house.
The backfill has settled about a foot below top of these walls.
Need to have slab poured. Typically around here (Iowa) they
backfill flush and pour slab before it has settled a lot.
Then when the frost heave comes , the soil conmpacts , without
heaving up on the slab too much and they hope to end up with a little
air space below the slab. However this seems to be a little hit and miss,
as occasionally a slab hwill crack. And I didn’t get the slab poured
on this job before a lot of rain and tromping has pack it pretty good.
Does anyone have a good method of preparing for porch slab
pours ( certain fill material , forming metal pan to pour on) ?
Thanks,
dj
