Got a huge storehouse of bundled 8 and 10 foot lengths of thick slabwood from an Amish cut about 4 years back, mostly whitewood and maple.
Anyone ever built a cabin from the same that can give ideas of construction? Thanks.
you mean you guys actually get paid for this stuff???

OK, I'll bite - - the key is to work off the flat side - set your horses up, lay the slab round down, with choks to keep it from rolling - snap a chalk line along both edges and rip the waste so that the slab ends up with two parallel edges with a minimum of 1" thickness - -
now you have a 6-10" wide board with one rounded side - you can use that as siding on a framed structure by butting the slabs together on a 1X4 or 6 using a 'board on batten' technique - -
or, if you're going for less yet, you can build your wall by putting straightened slabs (as per para #1) flat side to flat side, edges staggered with a 2X8 or so as plates, top and bottom - ya can put tar paper between the layers or even insulation board - cut out your windows with a chainsaw - -
you should remove bark as best you can -
well, yeah!you mean you guys actually get paid for this stuff???
or he can give it all to me..<G>

you can haul all the slab wood ya want from here...altho when I get done with a log, the slabs tend to be pretty puny...
two words in that post that don't work well...."haul" ( me) and "puny" ( not me)...I will be there for the ash ( not burnt) LOL...
