I have a Bosch Sliding Compound Miter Saw. It has some nice features BUT it does not seem to make cuts that are truly square, especially if I have to slide through the cut. It seems better when I chop cut.
Any suggestiions about correcting the problem?

If it's like my 12" and MANY others, your fence is warped. Lay a straight edge across both sides, I'll bet it has a gap on the left wing, just about an inch to the left from the blade path. About a 3/32" gap to be exact.

Do you have the 5412?
First, check to see if the fence is straight. Mine wasn't, and a couple of other guys here had the same problem.
Second, check your blade. If it's not a 1/2 way decent blade, or if it got jammed in a cut, or hit, it may no longer run true. Replace if any of these apply. I like the Forrest blades, but Freud makes some good ones, too.
Third, check your owner's manual and tune your saw. I do that ever once in a while, especially if I'm going to be doing any real precision cutting. A few minuted checking everything can pay big benefits.
I think Sphere and Shep are probably right.
My Bosch 4410 has been perfect from day one, but the 4412 at my Habitat for Humanity chapter was off 3/64" at inside edges of both wings of the fence so cutting a little off an end resulted in 1° error while a piece that bridged both outside edges of the fence would be straight when chop cut but off when slide-cut because it would deflect near the end of the cut when there was not much "meat" left to the board.
Bosch is very good about replacing the fence even past warranty. Just call them. They may even have a service center near you.
