Don't know aboout the FHB issue, but the October 2006 FWW No. 186 tested 10-inch sliders. Liked the Bosch best, model #4410L, $510.. The Milwaukee 6497-6 was Best Value, $430.
Andy Beasley also drove the Makita LS1013L, Hitachi C10FSH, Metabo and Chicago Electric.
Bosch, Hitachi, and Makita have the laser guides.
" The lasar cutting guides don't live up the their billing. None are sharp enough or display well enough to replace the more accurate method of alingning the blade with a pencil mark or using a stop. The only time I found a lasar useful was while cutting molding at large angles; the line helped me to visualize where the tilted blade would enter the profiled material." page 49.
Hey WP,
Not sure of any reviews as of late, although you can check out Tools of the Trade's website. As far as lasers go, I have a newer Makita LS1013L which has a laser and I find it useful at times. Makita's laser - and I believe Hitachi's as well - allows for lateral adjustment to bring it in tight to the blade. Unfortunately the laser only indicates one side of the blade, but I usually cut to the left so it's not an issue for me. My personal gripe is the laser itself washing out with ambient light, making it all but useless on a bright day. All in all though, I like having it. It's handy when working with dentil and rope moldings, and also is nice for lining up to layout lines - scribed stair treads for example.
Hopefully this link will work.
