New marble saddles were just installed in bath and laundry doorways. They are treacherously slippery! Other such saddles existing in the house are fine- not slippery at all. Are these available with different finishes? Is there a way to deal with the problem other than chopping them out?

Carole,I assume that the saddle you are talking about does not go on a horse. Excuse me because I am from Tennessee and do not understand the term as you are using it. I may hazard to guess that this "saddle" is used to contain water in these rooms. If this is the case I say rip them out. Marble is slippery enough dry!
*The term "saddle" is my contractor's- it refers to the part of a doorway at the threshold, which covers the area where floors from different room meet. Since they are wide enough to be often stepped "upon" rather than "over", they cannot be left slippery...

Have you thought about using some wet & dry sandpaper? Go with a very fine grit (800-1200) with some elbow grease. Works for me. Or, perhaps if you have alot of thresholds, have them shot blast.
Slip/fall is a real hazard that should concern all builders. Good for you.
*You can get anti-slip tape in clear. I have used it on tile baths and it is almost invisible.
