I am doing an 800 sq. foot second story addition with bathroom, 2 bedrooms and a common room. I am in Northern Michigan and currently have propane forced air heat in the basement but it is very problematic to get up to the addition. Anyone have any ideas about a small separate heating system- i am thinking a boiler because then i could extend heat into an unheated space that is an old second story that butts against the addition. Never had a boiler before and have no idea of costs- can anyone lead me toward some resources?

go to the JLC website, there was an article there for hydronic heating with a water heater (minimum installation cost, ideal for small applications). In floor radiant heat that can be done for minimum investment.

I don't know if the above url will work, but I just looked it up and that was where it was.
The author was Bill Clinton (probably a different one) and I plan to do the same someday for a small space at my place.
Hope this helps,
