In posting the following guestions regarding organizational problems I would sincerely appreciate (any) feedback from fellow small timers, or used to be’s. I build from the ground up everything. From metal framing to timber framing, log-homes, conventional, custom, cut-up roofs and all. my crew digs the footers, lays the block, and frames all the way to building on-site cabinets, mainly I do. My main problem stems from keeping helpers who will labor throughot the process, or taking a framer for example who won’t mind mixing mortar, or running a metal roof. Where my help has talent they whine, and where my help has no skill they are willing but will certainly botch things if left unattended. Now I sure there will be those of you that say specialize- can’t framers must travel too far where I live,(the sticks). Or I might get the bone-headed response of fire the whiners and put the laborer back to toting, sounds good but one still must eat and I can’t build alone for the size projects I produce. I assure you that my problem though not chronic it at the point where dicisions must be made and I hope that someone else who might be an all-arounder could shed light on how they’ve handled this problem. Most appreciative, Jon J.
