small gift ideas for subs

NaiveOwner | Posted in General Discussion on March 27, 2006 06:18am

I am an owner who is acting as a general contractor (with a significant amount of help from a project manager) on a major remodel/addition to a 1910 home.  Things are going well, and my subs are finishing up.  Besides paying them very promptly, which I am doing, I was hoping to give them a small token gift to thank them for their work.  Since I am on a tight budget, I really do mean token.  Something in the 25 to 50 dollar range.  I was hoping to get them something that they could use everyday.  Does anyone have any practical suggestions?

    Hi N.O. ,

I'm kind of in the same boat.  Real great crews doing better than I had hoped and ahead of schedule.  Would just like to show my appreciation, too.  Gift cert. at local build supply?, dinner cert.?

They've been great and a hand shake doesn't seem enough somehow, especially when you consider the weather they've been working in at this area.

...keep smiling...makes 'em wonder what you're up to !!

gift certificate for a local steak house

    or

have a house warming party and invite them and their family over for some steaks on the grill.

agree on the GC to a local joint. I hand em out for refferals to a mid scale place. Don't feel like you have to get dressed up in a tie to go in. Haven't had one sent back....yet

Course the party after is good too. Lots of promises. Only have attended 1.

Trades appreciate it. Thanks for thinking of them

    my vote would be for:

    1. Restaurant gift certificates...always a nice touch

    2. Invite them to a steak grill out at your place after it's all done...some subs never get to see the end result of their job.

    3. invite all the subs in for a big doughnut feed toward the end of the job...who don't like doughnuts!

    4. find out their favorite beer/wine..and spring for a nice bottle or case of either

(as you can see, I like food)

    5. whatever you do, advertise their work and spread their name...that will be the absolute best thing you could do..and will keep on giving back to them!

btw...need any help between now and then...:)

Someone actually had a party for subs once? Who?  I have had that promise about twice a year for 10 years. I have yet to be invited to one.

As far as a token gift, I like the food idea.  Can you "cater" in a nice lunch someday before project is over?  The other option is to take them all, your treat, to the local watering hole and hope they don't get a d.u.i. on the way home.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. An inch too short.  That's the story of my life !

bstcrpntr ---   I hope to grow into this name.

and make sure you do it,as everyone else said been promised for goin on 30 yrs,ive been to 1Due to recent budget cuts the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

        man isn't that the truth...

"we'll be sure and have you over for steaks when the house is finished..."

...either the house never quite gets done, or they lost my number/address in the mail....you can bet they'd find it to fix a crack in the drywall!knowledge without experience is just information.... Mark Twain

As someone who is finishing up a house and at a distance of 270 miles away I can relate to this.

The wife and I will be having a party for most of the contractors.

The wood cutter put me in a bad position with the neighbors by not following the instuctions.

The plasterer would rather get plastered than work on the job plus he made a real mess out of a big wall.

It's interesting to hear that most of those promised wrap-up parties never happen. I've been at this my whole life and haven't seen one yet. I'm glad to hear it's not just me. Maybe we need to start subin' for Tommy Silva. There's always a party on TOH.

I give and sometimes recieve dinner certificates.

As a sub, I highly appreciate them and my wife loves them even more. A $25 gift certificate says thanks enough for me, even if i have to chip in my own cash to have desssert!

Get all your subs a gift certificate to the local Lowes or Home Depot.  They would come in handy for everyone.  I got some this year and loved spending free money on my tool addiction. You're entitled to sh!t.---Tony Soprano
