I have Douglas fir plank subfloor throughout my 1920’s house. I’d like to retile my small jack and jill bathroom with 1″ hex tile. I’d also like to install an electric heated floor system. I have had a difficult time finding information on similar projects. I can’t use an underlayment system (like schluter) as those products require at least 2″ tile.
1. Do I put down a membrane, install heated floor system, poor self leveler over?
2. Do I need to first install plywood to ensure minimal deflection?
3. Should I go the route of a mortar bed?
Thanks

If you want a heated floor Schluter is the way to go. I think you can use small tiles, just put down a layer of the Schluter thinset to cover the cable and cable knobs so you have a flat surface. Once that is dry, apply thinset as you normally would for small tiles
(V notched trowel) and set tile. I would use Schluter thinset for this application as well.
By the way Schluter's number is 888-472-4588
