Hey all.
Had a gal ask me today why her new granite tops smelled bad. Asked the obvious about plumbing hook ups. She said that’s all good. I have nothing here. Any ideas?
Thanks all.
There are important considerations to keep in mind when building a slab-on-grade home with continuous insulation.

Were they sealed--maybe she's just smelling a sealer that hasn't cured completely?
Thanks to all who contributed. This was not my job and the question was asked by my dental technician, while I was in the chair. Anyway, I went to take a look, and , yep, it's plumbing. P-trap tail piece to wall was cracked on the top. No leak, just sewer gas.
Easy fix. Thanks again.
So, how does the dental tech look, if you have to, lie to us so we can live the fantasy No one should regard themselve as "God's gift to man." But rather a mere man whos gifts are from God.
Yeah, and was there any cleaning of the pipes involved...

Was any other work done or just the granite?
What does it smell like? Fish, Chemicals, a stinky bunhole?
Years ago I stuck down a granite top with polyester resin that I did add enough catalyst to and the cabinet interiors smelled like polyester resin for a few weeks.
If it is a chemical smell I would look into the adhesive holding it down.
Sealer smell should dissipate very quickly.

Bet that's it, they bedded the granite top in a few dabs of silly cone to keep it from floating away

If it is silicone, as others have suggested, the odor is sharp--like vinegar and should go away.
