How long does a good smoke detector last, I replaced a battery in one and it is beeping again………someone told me they are only good for about 6 years…… my house is now 8 years old

They last till they break.
Replace it. I have replaced 3 or 4 in 8 years in my house.
Sometimes you can blow the dust out and get them to function ok but you want to test them to make sure they are working. (Get either canned smoke or a cigar) Test buttons test the circuit, smoke tests the system.
have you vacumed them ??? maintence maintence & maintence !!!
