Am repairing-replacing broken asbestos shingles on a house, with fiber-cement ones and salvageable asbestos pieces. However, I can’t make smooth cuts on either of the materials (breaking, chipping, cracking, cursing, stomping,) Have tried reversed plywood blade on circular saw and a backsaw with same results–even with duct tape backing. How do you cut this stuff to get smooth edges and unruffled temper?

Tom , Its me again .You might check your local tool rental or an old lumber yard . I've borrowed a tool from the lumber yard a couple of times made just for this .Its a shear ,kinda like a big paper cutter , it also has a punch built into the handle for nail holes .The one I used was old probably from when this siding was commonly used , thats why I suggested an old lumber yard. Good luck , Chuck
*Tom , The tool is a slate cutter, had one at the roofing co. I worked at years past. You might try a 7 1/4" diamond blade for circular saw. I use one for lots of jobs involving concrete , works great. USE a dust mask.
