I was informed that a cleaning technique called “soda blasting” is being used as a method of odor control and cleaning charred rafter or truss framing. Have you ever heard of this process?

Same concept, totally different application
I have done some trial runs with sodium bicarb in the blast cabinets at work. I was looking at it for cleaning cast iron and steel parts. Your application is quite interesting. Try this site:

*Just saw an article in This Old House magazine. (Hope I don't get banned for that reference.) A guy sandblased the char off the wood then sealed in the odor with shellac. According to him it worked but I wonder what happens on a hot humid day.
