Happy Easter to all. I am remodeling a condo on the South shore of Maui. There is a lot of solar gain through a West-facing wall with a large picture window. The unit is on the ground floor with no overhang over the window. We are not allowed to modify or add to the exterior of the building so we are stuck solving this problem from the inside. I’m considering furring the existing 2×4 wall to 2×6 and filling it with loose-fill cellulose, then adding 2″ of EXPS with furring strips and 5/8″ drywall on the inside. I’m planning on ordering a triple-pane window to replace the existing double-pane assembly. We also will install some kind of rolled solar screen to lower over the window during periods of direct sun exposure. Does anyone have any tips or ways of improving this design? What is the best interior solar screen product to use? Thanks in advance!
