When I worked in Northern California, sheetmetal shops soldered the joints of roof flashings (e.g. upper and lower saddles for skylights). In Colorado, they used pop rivets and caulk. Now I am in Oklahoma and wondering which approach is best. I think a good soldering job is probably more waterproof but wonder if excessive ambient temperature variation might rip the joints apart.

Oklahoma doesn't have the heavy standing snow that might allow the water to migrate into the flashing. I've always just caulked under the flashing pieces. I have never had a leaker and I've been working here in OK for over 30 years.
the caulk lasts for for how many years?10 or 12 the soldered joints as long as the metal? I would say depends on the customer and what you stand for
