Hello. Do you guys use a gasket under your sole plates or some type of adhesive? This is for a slab with pt sole plates.
Thanks

Good topic...I think. We used a blue foam sill sealer product.

Jim do they sell it at the big box stores?
Foam gasket material. Not necessarily blue, have seen pink and white also.
Comes as a roll (100'?) - lumber yard, big box.

IIRC, Protecto makes a thicker product they claim fills gaps on rougher concrete better, something like 3/8" thick, with flaps that self-stick to plate and foundation. Mmmm, here it is:
http://www.protectowrap.com/documents/WorldsBest.pdfI'd be interested in any feedback on actual use of this.
Never heard of it before. If the concrete slab is that rough, they better get a new mason.

Couldn't the insulators seal the sill to the concrete? Up here we build on crawlspaces and the insulators come in to "caulk and foam" the plates to the floor, intersecting outside walls, run backer rod around the windows and foam all the holes in outside walls that were cut by the trades. This is inspected during the framing inspection.
In light of that, what are the advantages of either the foam roles, or the gasket that you lay down before the wall is lifted?
Now I gotta go buy flowers, its my anniversary today :-) 8 years.
Thanks for all the info. I went to the big box store and picked up a couple of rolls.
We use the foam sill sealer, but I take the additional step of running a heavy bead of acoustical sealant to seal the bottom plate to the slab. The poly VB is also caulked to the bottom plate. It is easy for the sill seal to get jacked around when you are standing walls on anchor bolts so I like the additional insurance. It's a bad place for an air leak.
Thanks Marson. Will any caulking work?
You don't want a caulk that will eventually harden, because it will crack and lose it's effectiveness. Acoustical sealant is used for vapor barriers around here because it remains flexible--in fact, you'll still ruin your clothes even if that glob has been sitting on that stepladder for 2 weeks! There are other caulks that would be OK, like NP1 or Vulkem or something like that.
