Can a solid surface sink bowl be blended in with a solid surface veneer countertop (to get that molded one-piece look)?
I’d like a double lav for a 54″ wide vanity made with solid surface material but the $900.00+ price (w/o install) is blowing my budget. I am hoping that the veneer would work and bring down the cost.

Can this even be done? At first blush it would seem that the current process of gluing a solid surface material, like Corian or Avonite, to a similar material basin wouldn't translate to a veneer that's, what, about an eighth of an inch thick? I wouldn't imagine the bond would have sufficient strength. There are so many attractive drop in lav basins available, I think I'd look in that direction first.
*I think I would lean with Barry on this one.Even if you were able to perfectly recess the sink so that both surfaces were flush, if and when the seal would fail, the water would penetrate and lift the veneer to make a very ugly situation.I would vote against it and use your budget money wisely and get the best combination for the buck.
*I wouldn't try it either. In fact, I don't want to sound too negative, but even my suppliers aren't very positive about the veneers. one basically told me to stay away from it.

As I recall, Home Depot has a new display of Wilsonart solid surface veneer and they have a variety of matching drop-in solid surface sinks that look great. They are certainly worth a look. Good luck.
*My parents renovated their kitchen a year ago and used the Wilsonart Solid Surface Veneer with a flush solid surface sink. They have had no problems and are very happy with the results. the Wilsonart did not come from Home Depot. While we are all calling the product a veneer, I believe that soilid surfacing isn't truly "solid". It to is mounted on a particleboard substrate. As far as the "veneer" goes, like solid surfacing, there are no visible joints. The individual pieces are joined the same way.
