Since my post some time ago, I received so much great information from lots of people. Quite a few wanted me to let them know how things were going. Well, the process has begun. Here is a picture of my lot which I closed on last week, along with my free laborer. I am about a month into the home design and am looking at a colonial with a center chimney and a lot of the details that go along with that type of home. I picked up the permit applications from the town of colchester and will start clearing the driveway of brush next weekend. Did I mention its a flag lot with a 600 foot driveway. Thank god its mostly small brush. Lets hope the poison ivy doesn’t kill me. Next, test pits for the septic and finalizing the footprint location.

It will be great to follow you through the building process. Thanks for posting your progress.
*It is always a good practice to get the septic approved prior topurchasing the lot.Good luck.
*i free laborer- I doubt it - looks like one of those expensive ones - best of luck to you - DOUD
*George, I probably should clarify the septic. The perc tests were done 12 years ago. The current health inspector wants them redone simply because they were done 10 years ago and their testing procedures have changed. I was informed by the site engineer, the local inspector and the health inspector that the lot is buildable, its just a matter of where on the lot the septic goes. There is no ledge and top and subsoil to 24". I know it sounds risky to buy the lot before the septic engineering but I don't think this will be an issue.
*Nice lot. As far as the poison ivy, wear gloves and get yourself a bar of Fel's Naptha Laundry Bar Soap. The soap dries out oils from the poison ivy and if you already have it, it helps clear it up and offers some relief.
