That was interesting. Thanks. I've been disappointed at the lack of business threads that apply to my situations lately but that was an intriguing read.
It's was weird to hear the trade put into business lingo that goes over my head. I have a lot to learn. Seeing the revenues and reading their approaches made me feel like a fake. I do the work but after 2 years of running my own business I think that I still don't know much about how to run a company. Not that I'm stupid but rather I am ignorant of the many elements of being a business.
bcarpentry,
I think you're on the right track. Keep in mind that while the article was good, almost all of the companies were relatively well-established being in business for several years. Only one or two were founded since 2000. Having that much longevitiy means alot in this business as you would then already be well-established in your area and know many of the pros and cons those folks mentioned.
And never be intimated by anyone's revenue numbers. In the last few years I have varied from $0 to losing money to $900k. Not alot is totally reflective in this economy.
So hang in there and keep plugging away.
Mike

Maybe time to start a few?? Lot's of good heads here. I'm always asking for help. Not ashamed in the least at looking ignorant.
You could swing by JLC and take a peek at what's going on over there.
I'm glad that you appreciated the link.

Thanks. I have hesitated because I like to read the opinions of the guys that post regularly and learn from the discussions. Haven't really figured out how to fit in so I have mainly enjoyed observing. While a subscriber to jlc I joined fhb first and so haven't really paid much attention to the other site. I have evenings or weekends where I want to read and learn and then times where all I do is work and don't log in for weeks. Haven't wanted to start a thread seriously and then ignore it. Kinda done that already....
Thanks I'm going to read the whole thing later.
Kind of interesting that half the field is within 25 miles of me.
