I just got done re-painting the posts and panel.
I figured out how to set the posts in concrete but still be able to get them out if I need to.
I slit a piece of schedule 40 PVC and opened it up a bit to get it on the 2″ square posts.
Then I slipped on one more layer at the top and capped it with a 3″ cap.
The bottom and the slit is covered with duct tape. The bottom will sit in concrete with a layer or two of duct tape between them.
One of the pics is of the post with some holes in it. The gauge of the post tubing was to light for a good connection to the panel. So I took some 5/16″ X 1 3/16″ bar stock and fastened it inside the posts. They are tapped to accept bolts from the panels.
I’m ready to set them.

You need to back up a bit and get an overall picture. So the pvc is a tight fit around the pipe? What is the purpose of the wider flange around the pipe at the grade level?

No problem. I'm not sure if people are interested sometimes.
This is a small ornamental fence at the curb for climbing roses to grow on.
I landscaped with stone walls and thought it would be a nice touch.
I'm trying to make the house look like it is from an older era.
I wanted to make the post removable if there was a problem. I hope I never do have to pull them. Like most places, people drive badly here and if someone hits it I will have to fix it. I don't like planning for stuff but if it happens I will feel batter if I can get them out.
The posts are 2"x2" square tubes that are pretty light gauge.
I slit the 2 1/2" pvc down it's length and spread it so it clamps on the four corners of the square post.
I picked up a 3" cap and it didn't fit snug on the spread 2 1/2" pvc so I slit a short length of the 2 1/2" and snapped it over the first one. This is just a filler piece so the cap fits snug.
I put the cap on so junk doesn't fall down between the pvc and the post. I'll caulk around the top of the cap where the post goes through.
Since the pvc snaps onto the post tight and there will be concrete backing up the pvc I think it will be plenty strong. But I think I could pull the post if I have to since only the four corners are bound.
I didn't run the pvc past the end of the tubing at the bottom because I wanted the bottom of the post to set on concrete. That way it can't settle further into the tube over time. It might not do that but I wanted to make sure. there is only about an inch of 2x2 tubing sticking out the bottom of the pvc. I put a couple of layers of duct tape around it to seal out concrete and to release the post if I have to pull them. Nice fence. I didn't realize that the cap was to seal off the open space between the steel and the pvc. make sense now."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

I got it set in the ground this morning and took a few more pics.
In the one large pic you can see how the green in the fence and moss on the rocks work together.
I wanted the rocks and the steel to work together and I think they do.
There is a small climbing rose that is behind the fence that will be trained to grown on the fence.
That is what will really set it off.
Now to build 6 more.

Fence looks good, blue tape looks tacky. You should have used black duct tape at least.
:)
Did you weld up the fence section?"Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

which picture has the whole fence in it
Picture 037 in post # 5 has a picture of the first panel installed between two posts.
That spot only gets one panel.
The next area gets two, and the last one gets 4.
I'm also going to put some little sides going up the drive and walkway. Just for a couple of feet.
The whole fence isn't done. Just the first panel.
I wanted to get this one right before I started any more. I've never done this before.
I'm working part time and looking for more work so I have the time.
The house remodel is on hold because of the economy. I was going to put a patio on the front of the house. "There are three kinds of men: The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation and the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."Will Rogers
I wrapped the fence with a sock first. I was concerned about peeling the top coat off with the tape.
As it turns out the blue tape didn't touch the paint.
I think the paint will be fine after it dries better.
Paint stays soft for a while. But I wanted this in the ground.
It's been slow with a lot of tedious work on the first one. The others should go faster now that I've done one.
I'll keep posting when there is something to show.
