There's a machine shed on a farm near my grandma's old house that has metal siding like that. Every piece is a different color. Buildings like that are something that you always seem to remember.
I once did work in a rental house that had carpet like that. Cheapskate owner wouldn't spring for carpet, so the renter, who worked for a carpet company, had pieced together scraps and samples, probably using seam tape "borrowed" from his employer.
