Nice we had one a couple of weeks ago. First one I can remember in a few years. It always makes me step back and look.

I'm always intrigued with the fact that one is the 'mirror' of the other, with the colors reversed. I loved seeing them often in Florida.
Thanks for the pictures and reminders..have fun...dan

I had never noticed that before. Anyone know why that is?
I was out at the farm once after a brief rain. I was standing in the door of a machine shed looking out when the brightest rainbow I'd ever seen appeared. And it ended right over the grain bin.
I sure wish I'd had a camera - I think I could have sold a picture of that to a farm magazine or something.

Ron,
I wonder if the outer circle is a reflection off the dust or vapor in the clouds?

Interesting question. But I have no idea if that's right or not. Can thing reflect in a circular pattern?

Our local paper, The Ledger Enquirer, posted this link last week's double rainbow. I submitted several of the pics. Cannot tell if they were used other than 2 of them.

Chuck,
I asked my wife the physicist about this and she sent along this link. It gives a good explanation of both why there is a double rainbow, and why the top one has the colors switched.

Nice pictures by the way!

>> Anyone know why that is?The Wikipedia article has a pretty good explanation.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow
I got a picture of a 360 degreee rainbow the other day after a big Noreaster herein Newport, RI. The rainbow circled right around the sun. I was stuck in a tight position on the roof and the sun was really bright so the picture didnt quite cut it but it was a full circle rainbow i tell ya.

The ridge of the roof was blocking the rest of it and I wasnt keen enough to get down from my position to get the photo.
That's cool. Never seen a 360`.

Those leprechauns are getting smarter and smarter about hiding their gold.
I wish I had a pic of the most spectacular double rainbow I had ever seen.
When I was in sixth grade, my dad retired from his work as a computer programmer for Nicor and my parents and I spent three weeks in Europe.
The day we went to the Louvre, we saw this sight:

The only difference was that there was a strong double rainbow directly over the pyramid. We couldn't get the camera out in time to capture it but I always thought that if the picture was of decent quality, we could have won some type of contest because it was so striking to have a famous landmark and a rare event of nature captured in the same frame.

Stvee,
Thanx for the link. Your wife has a lot going on. More than you or me.
I forwarded to Mike Haskey, and he loved the info.

Chuck,Sorry, I should have clarified. That's just a stock photo off of the internet, I missed the one that I wish I had.

Jon,
What is shown in that part of the museum? Mibiles, statuary? I would love to go there someday.

I honestly can't remember.

Chuck,
IIRC, what's under the pyramid is a main hall with the ticket offices, bookshop, and maybe a cafe. You enter the museum through the pyramid.
IM Pei also designed the East Building of the National Gallery in DC, along with a similar design of glass pyramids.

And, for some other views of the Louvre:

It's a great museum in a beautiful city. Definitely worth the trip.

Steve,
Thanks for the info and links. I bookmarked them.
Frank Gehry did a building somewhere that one side is designed to look like Fred and Ginger dancing. I saw it on the net once and have been unable to find it again. Very cool Building.

Here's one Gehry did in Prague. Looks like it might be the one you are thinking of.http://www.galinsky.com/buildings/dancinghouse/index.htmHe was supposed to do a new addition to the Corcoran like so, http://www.arcspace.com/architects/gehry/corcoran/index_a.htmBut I believe that was shelved after they couldn't raise enough donors to contribute. Too bad, as it would have made for a nice addition to the staid DC streetscape.
Steve,
Thanx for that info. Dancing House is the one. He is a brilliant man. Maybe Gates or Buffet will build it.
