It’s been quite a while since I’ve looked into Breaktime. I’m happy to see it’s still going strong. I notice the topics look the same with the same answers still being given by the same cast of characters.
I’m not sure how long I’ll hang out, I just hope the time spent will be fun.

Luka, good to see you again.
Actually, the main reason I looked in was to talk to carpenters (I consider all tradesmen to be "real" people) about the election!
Are you still on the mountain?

Blue,
Good to see you back!
"Boogerin' with Blue" is the most missed thread hands down. It seems no one has a copy and it was lost in the WebX to Prospero move.
Are you in FL?
Jon Blakemore
John, thank you for that most eloquent comment. I almost feel compelled to do another "Boogerin thread"!
I'm still in Michigan. All my stuff is/was up for sale for the move to Florida, to chase my grandkids. I was really looking forward to the move and drooling at the prospect of moving into an area that sported the demographix that produced 10 to 20% appreciation on real property and the hurricanes hit.
My daughter, her husband and two kids got caught in a viscious catch 22. They never unpacked their stuff from their move down there and had to evacuate twice.
Long story short, they are selling out and heading to the desert...somewhere.
Like a puppy dog...I'll be following...my grandkids are too important to me to be separated. Because of the uncertainty, I'll probably have to spend another winter here, but I was considering a few months down there doing rebuilds.

In truth Blue, I sometimes had to act in ways when I was a moderator that didn't reflect my personal views. I'm a lot more comfortable on a job site than in an office. Leaving FHB put the kibosh to a regular paycheck, but it made me a free man.

It's hard to put a quantifying value on freedom, Andy, but that is the choice I made also, and I have never regretted it.Hope things are well for you and yours. What the HECK was I thinking?

Yep, still here. Tell your daughter if we get hit again before she moves, and loses her "juice", to call me. I have a 5250 watt generator and two window air conditioners she can use..
Thats a very generous offer Sonny...thanks.
My daughter is actually suffering from hurricane fatigue. She is back home now in Jupiter and forced to mop up... The hotel experice has been draining to them, both financially and emotionally, as well as physically. It's not easy to find an affordable hotel that takes two kids, and two dogs (one is a large Golden Retrievor). Her baby is 5 months old and it was impossible to get decent food (resturants had 3 hour lines). She was forced to sleep in the same room as her mother in law, husband and two kids, and the M-I-L snored loudly all nite due to consumption of sleeping pills and alcohol.
In the midst of the exodus, their new used truck was involved in two separate accidents (minor, but annoying fender benders). They've experienced insurance problems, needed medicnes that were unavailable due to the move (slow paperwork), and in the midst of all the misery...someone from the UK managed to steal their credit card, the main one that they use for all day to day purchases. So, that got cancelled.
After I listened to her for about an hour, I felt like crying too.
I really don't think they are staying in Florida...she was always quite paranoid when tornado warnings sounded around here...she actually would go to the basement like a good citizen!

Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Piffin, there was another poster that had Jupiter Island ties. He posted as Bnovak or something like that. His real name was Barry Novak of Banco Construction. We eventually connected here in MI and we did all his framing. Typically he was doing high end remod in and around Birmingham and Bloomfield area of Michigan.
I don't know if hes been posting or lurking, but I do know he was burning out of the remod biz even though he was running a pretty good operation.

Come back here with some political smokescreen... Yeah, well, I know why you're really back, you heard how there wuz real framers here talking about putting in blocking for the trim wienies. HA HA HA!
Hey, it's nice to see your opinionated azz back. So, how 'bout them Libertarians<G> or are you runnin' again? Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Hey BB, one of our crews put some window (curtain) blocking in on one house. It was a dinky little ranch and the old guy and his two kids hand pounded it and set the trusses by hand.
We didn't bid anymore of that builders work...

Hey Jeff, yes I'm still selling....aren't we all.
Lets see, what do we sell? We sell ourselves to the builder...to our employees..to the homebuyer....to the other tradesmen....to our wives...
The list goes on and on.
I posted at the top that I'm an inactive director in the MLM. I did pull some very valuable training out of that....none that would match this Woodshed however!

Actually Jeff, I never really relinquished the framing company. I did move out of the day to day operations for the last two years or so. I was occassionally filling in for vacationers, or whatever for a few days or so. I vaguely remember framing one house last year, but I don't think I took it from start to finish.
I did spend the spring/summer finishing the resort project on Lake Huron. It's hard to stay motivated when the Lake is hypnotizing you. We've managed to start our bookings ($2500 per week), but I've decided to opt out and we're cashing it in for easier (passive) income.
I did hook up with some incredible sales trainings. The best value was a guy named Buck Reid doing 6/7 hour days of incredible sales pyschological stuff. I managed to get in three weekend sessions at $20 per day. Fantastic value! Unfortunatly, he left the system and now operates inside another MLM at substantially more for each training. It's still great value at $300 per pop but I prefer the twenty spot. We (my partner Frank, and I) are using every possible sales idea that we can remember to close deals at higher margins. Unfortunatly, I don't think the framing operation will survive. The margins are simply not good enough to invest so much time into it. We are shifting out of subbing into Building.
Frank, under my watchful eye, gave the big time framing a good old fashioned try this past year. We ( especially he, because he's young with a lot of energy) really tried focusing on the bottom line, as well as expanding in hopes of creating additional income streams from framing. We (actually I mean he) managed to get up to 24 guys, framing production townhouses but ultimatlly decided that we want to hang up our tools forever. We now simply funding our grocery accounts doing customs with the last remaing remnants of Frank's Carpentry dream.
Basically, he had to find out that framing is no longer a viable business. It's sad, but true.
I'll promise to dispense the sales stuff in the appropriate threads as they come to my subconscious.

Hehehe, that made me laugh Gunner....I haven't thought about how much damage I did with that old hunk of iron. Some guys using it out on his bike site now.
Actually, I've moved away from the lake, leaving my Barn behind. I'm currently in a Condo, enjoying a maintenance free life. I've got one tool chest, that I rarely look into and even more rarely take anything out. In fact, the key was lost for a year, and I couldn't even remember what was in it!
I've graduated to an even more dangerous hunk of iron.....a skytrak...haven't tipped it yet but Ive seen the guys eyes bug out. I'm relatively dangerous with that, but you should see the guys run when I start swinging the crane around. I openly admit...i'm f'in scary! I'd be a little nicer if the guys actually signaled intelligently, but thats as rare as a $3 bill!

I tried a "Boggerin' with Boss" thread once. But it kinda died out when the project I was boogerin' got scrapped.
Guess I could try one again. But I never know how things will turn out. And what I do just isn't as exciting without pictures. (-:Memory is a child walking on a seashore. You can never tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things.
