I’m finishing off a basement and want to minimize sound transmission from the basement to the first floor. Ceiling/floor system: 1/2″ drywall, 16″ deep truss joist, 3/4″ sturdifloor, floating laminated hardwood. In the past we’ve used something called rc channel which you nailed to the joist and screwed your drywall to creating a separation between the wood and the drywall, but I’ve never lived with it and don’t know how it worked. Is this a good system? Are there better ones. Would heavy fg insulation in the 16″ joist space do much or is the transmission straight through the sheetrock to the joist to the wood floor to the first floor. Thanks for any ideas.
